EURAD  DEMANDS THAT ASSOCIACION ANTIDROGAS DE LA REPUBIC ARGENTINA PRESIDENT CLAUDIO IZAGUIRRE BE FREED WITHOUT CHARGE OR DELAY AND AN APOLOGY BE OFFERED IMMEDIATELY BY ARGENTINE GOVERNMENT.

We have learned with alarm that EURAD (Europe Against Drugs) Argentine member Claudio Izaguirre, president of the anti-drug organisation, Asociación Antidrogas de la República Argentina and Board Member of Drug Watch International (USA)  was arrested while conducting a peaceful demonstration and delivering flyers outside a drug political conference in Buenos Aires.  Freedom of Speech is a basic human right and we are alarmed that this right would now appear to be threatened in Argentina.

We are particularly aware that our Jewish friends and Associates are commemorating at this time the loss of more than 6 million of their people which occurred as a direct result of such a cruel policy in Germany over seventy years ago.

It is not acceptable in a free world that one of our allies is silenced by the Argentine Justice Ministry while demonstrating in support of the United Nations Conventions on Narcotics and Childrens Rights.

We demand that his freedon of speech be restored immediately with full assurances from the Argentine Government that they will not interfere with his freedom.  May I remind you that your Government are signatories to these Conventions being defended by Izaguirre and that he is entitled to the full protection of the law in this regard.  

We call on Mr Antonio Maria Costa, Director of INCB in Vienna to lodge a protest.

Eccellenza,

è con vivo stupore che abbiamo appreso oggi dell'arresto in Argentina avvenuto lunedì 28 aprile scorso di Claudio Izaguirre, Presidente della Associazione "Asociacion Antidrogas de la Republica Argentina", ed  autorevole membro dell' EURAD (Europe Against Drugs) e del DWI (Drug Watch International - USA) mentre conduceva una pacifica dimostrazione distribuendo materiale informativo all'esterno di una conferenza sulle politiche sociali riguardo la tossicodipendenza.

La libertà di espressione è un diritto elementare dell'uomo e sismo allarmati che questo diritto possa venire meno nella Repubblica di Argentina.

Non è accettabile, infatti, che ad uno dei nostro soci venga negata la libertà di opinione mediante un arresto di polizia mentre dimostrava in sostegno delle Convenzioni Internazionali sulle droghe delle Nazioni Unite e della Carta ONU per i diritti dei Minori di cui anche l'Argentina è firmataria.

Noi chiediamo assicurazioni che la libertà di espressione venga garantita dal Governo Argentino anche su questi temi e che il dott.

Izaguirre venga posto quanto prima in libertà e non gli venga più negato il diritto di manifestare contro le politiche liberali in materia di droghe.

Le Président de l'Association "Asociación Antidrogas de la República Argentina" a été arrêté ce week-end en Argentine. Voici le mail que nous avons envoyé à l'Ambassade d'Argentine en France :

Paris, le 2 mai 2008

C'est avec stupéfaction que nous apprenons que notre ami M. Claudio Izaguirre président de l'Association "Asociación Antidrogas de la República Argentina" en Argentine, a été arrêté il y a deux jours en accomplissant une démonstration pacifique et en distribuant des flyers à l'extérieur d'une conférence politique sur les drogues à Buenos Aires. L'association de Claudio Izaguirres est membre associé d'EURAD - Europe Contre les Drogues, nous trouvons scandaleux que l'on prive de sa liberté d'expression un de nos alliés.

Nous demandons qu'il soit immédiatement libéré et qu'il puisse aussi dans l'avenir continuer son travail contre la propagation et l'utilisation de drogues illicites.

Set Claudio Izaguirre free

With alarm we hear that our ally, Mr. Claudio Izaguirre, president of the anti-drug organisation, Asociación Antidrogas de la República Argentina, two days ago was arrested while conducting a peaceful demonstration and delivering flyers outside a drug political conference in Buenos Aires. Claudio Izaguirres organisation is associate member of EURAD - Europe Against Drugs, and we find it unbearable that one of our allies this way gets his freedom of speech reduced. We demand that he immediately be set free, and that he has the opportunity also in the future to continue his work against the spread and use of illicit drugs.
